Lectures Commence at Federal College of Education, Ididep

Two years after its establishment, lectures and other academic activities have commenced at the Federal College of Education, Ididep, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.

Two years after its establishment, lectures and other academic activities have commenced at the Federal College of Education, Ididep, in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area. Explicit News reports that students numbering over 300, by the reckoning of the Registrar, Mr Nsemeke Udoakpan, reported for studies on the first day, Monday, September 8, 2025. In his interactions with news men, the Provost of the college, Dr Edem Ntuk, expressed delight for the commencement of activities in the college long after several preliminary engagements by the management. Dr Ntuk, who recalled that the college was established in 2023 by the late President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration, explained that activities had ranged from securing the expanse of land where the institution is situated, alongside other paper works that were required for their full operation. “We needed to secure the place officially,” referring to the land, “meet with relevant authorities, the Federal Minister of Education, the state government, and at the end, the state governor was magnanimous enough to give the certificate of occupancy,” explained Dr Ntuk. According to the Provost, the National Commission for Colleges of Education, after the college’s resource verification, approved twenty programmes across six schools. He also disclosed that the college was now registered with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. The Registrar, for his part, revealed that the college already had in its employ, over 140 academic staff and over 100 non-academic staff as of the date of lecture assumption. He further named the schools to include education, languages, arts and science, vocational and technical education, and the school of early childhood education, as well as the school of science. While he thanked the federal government for giving approvals for recruitment, he described the relationship with the community as welcoming, and encouraged parents to send their wards to the college. Similarly, the College Librarian, Dr Celina Jumai Nongo, said she had the full assurance of the Provost, other management staff and the community to achieve the objectives of the federal government for establishing the college. She commended Akwa Ibom people for being hospitable and creating an environment that is suitable for training of students that would benefit the state and the entire country. Students, who spoke to Explicit News, including Uwakmfon Shedrack and Isaac Solomon, described their first classes as interactive and expressed their optimism for a rewarding stay on campus. Moreover, as staff and students from various parts of Nigeria assumed activities in the college, this commencement came two years after approval was given by the federal government for the college’s operation.
