A team from the Federal Ministry of Finance has sensitised students of the Federal College of Education (FCE), Ididep, Ibiono Ibom, on harnessing business skills for self-development and economic empowerment, barely a week after the commencement of academic activities for the semester. During the interactive session, a key speaker from the Ministry, Mr. Udoh Abasiodiong, identified self-reorientation as the critical pathway to achieving transformative change in society. He outlined essential steps for business success, which include generating problem-solving ideas, pursuing visions with excellence, and conducting critical feasibility studies to situate the right businesses in suitable environments. Mr. Abasiodiong implored the students to practicalise their business acumen, urging them to use their spare time to develop ideas and cultivate ventures that nurture their acquired skills. He promised that the Youth Enterprise In Nigeria (YOUWIN) initiative would continue to provide a vital platform for students to access information, shape ideas, and receive the necessary support to bring their innate potential to fruition for the good of society. Corroborating this, another resource person, Mrs. Sennen Nsi Udoh, admonished the students to strive for self-reliance. Drawing from her personal experiences, she encouraged them to engage in small-scale enterprises requiring minimal startup capital to reduce total dependence on parents and guardians. In her remarks, she revealed that even as a mother and civil servant, she still runs minor ventures that provide an alternative source of income. Officials of FCE Ididep, including Mr. Anietie Fidelis, Assistant Registrar, Academic Affairs who represented the Registrar, and Dr John Paul Udoh, the Dean of Student Affairs, expressed gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Finance for the initiative. They charged the students to remain dedicated to their academic work while effectively utilising the ideas garnered from the enlightening session. The event featured a free distribution of business books and a robust question-and-answer segment on business development tips.
